How best to kick off our ‘In The Spotlight’ series than with our very own founder and digital influencer, Pamela Miller.
Pamela has worked in marketing for over 12 years, after graduating with honours from Robert Gordon University in Business Studies & Marketing. During that time she has honed her skills in B2C and B2B marketing, working in both the motoring sector and more recently in the oil & gas industry.
Finding a passion for blogging back in 2013, Pamela has since gained a top 150 UK rank for her family lifestyle & interiors blog Life With Munchers and has gone on to work with brands such as Laura Ashley, DFS, Black + Decker and The Gro Company as part of their wider content marketing strategy.
Based in Aberdeen, Pamela set up AB Fiftyone to drive her passion for all things marketing and bring her award winning digital marketing expertise to the North East of Scotland and beyond.
Was setting up your own business something you always wanted to do?
I think once you enter the world of 9-5, it’s very easy to become driven by so many factors from salary to position and I was wholeheartedly in that race and enjoying it at the time. If it hadn’t been for the downturn in the oil industry I would have never made the connection, done the sums and taken the leap into setting up my own marketing company. But now that I’m here…I’m loving the challenge.
What do you love most about what you do?
It would have to be the flexibility and work/life balance. Any parent will understand the huge guilt factor involved when kids enter your world and juggling a career, family life and a home is pretty daunting. It usually involves a fair bit compromise. So for me, being my own boss puts me in the driving seat and lets me spin my own plates in the order that suits the day best.
How did you get into blogging and the world of digital influence?
Like most, blogging started as a bit of a hobby…documenting our lives, completely unaware at the potential it could bring us as a family. Soon enough brands would get in touch to discuss working together on campaigns. I had no idea when I started it would lead to working with some of my favourite brands and make an entirely new group of friends at the same time.
What has been your favourite brand campaign to work on?
I have loved to be part of product launches such as Lighthouse clothing, as well as brand ambassador for The Gro Company. Some of my favourite campaigns have been the ones where you have to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in, like room makeovers and reviewing the BMW i3.
More recently I’ve developed a content marketing strategy for Ewan Lawson Motors and that has been so fulfilling, watching the results flood in as a result of something they didn’t have the time or knowledge to execute on their own.
What does the future hold for AB Fiftyone?
Well, this is just the tip of the iceberg! We have been speaking with small businesses in Scotland, as well as larger national brands about how we can breathe life into their marketing. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut with marketing and almost be unsure about what to tweak from fear of dropping off the radar. We can bring an integrated approach to any companies marketing to ensure their campaigns, be it social media, blogging or traditional channels, are all harmonised.
Where will you be 5 years from now?
It’s hard to let yourself dare to dream when you’re at the start of a new journey…but as long as everything goes in the right direction I’ll be happy with where it takes me.
