Aberdeen-based specialist energy marketing agency AB Fiftyone has been shortlisted in the Creative and Media Entrepreneur of the Year category at the Allica Bank Great British Entrepreneur Awards for Scotland, as the business celebrates its tenth anniversary.
The shortlist recognises founder Pamela Miller‘s entrepreneurial journey and the growth of AB Fiftyone from a one-person consultancy established during the 2015 oil and gas downturn into a specialist digital-first agency supporting energy and industrial businesses across the UK and internationally.
Founded following redundancy during one of the North Sea’s most challenging periods, AB Fiftyone was built around a simple ambition: helping businesses communicate more effectively online. Over the past decade, we’ve evolved into an agency focused exclusively on the energy and industrial sectors, helping technically capable organisations become easier to discover, understand, trust and choose.
As buyer behaviour continues to evolve across the energy sector, we have developed a distinctive approach centred on digital visibility, buyer confidence and commercially focused marketing strategies that reflect how modern procurement and supplier evaluation now take place.
For founder Pamela Miller, the shortlist marks an important milestone in a journey that was never part of the original plan.
“When you’ve built something from the ground up, recognition like this feels incredibly rewarding. Ten years ago, I never imagined I’d be running an agency. What started as a consultancy that gave me flexibility while raising my family has grown into a business with ambitious plans for the future. To be recognised by the Great British Entrepreneur Awards as we celebrate our tenth anniversary makes this milestone even more meaningful.”
Looking back at the past decade, Pamela believes redundancy ultimately became the catalyst for something far bigger.
“If I could speak to myself in 2015, I’d simply say trust the process. At the time, redundancy felt like the end of one chapter, but it became the beginning of another. Entrepreneurship was never part of the plan, but building AB Fiftyone has created opportunities, flexibility and a sense of purpose I could never have imagined. More importantly, it has allowed us to build something that genuinely helps businesses communicate the value of the work they do.”
Today, we partner with energy and industrial organisations across the UK and overseas, delivering strategic marketing, digital visibility, website development, search engine optimisation, thought leadership, content strategy and fractional CMO support. Increasingly, we’re recognised for our insight into how buying behaviour is changing across the energy sector, helping clients adapt their marketing to reflect how suppliers are researched, evaluated and shortlisted long before formal procurement begins.
The latest shortlist adds to a period of continued recognition for the business. Over the past year, AB Fiftyone was named Best Digital Marketing Agency (North East Scotland) at the SME Scottish Enterprise Awards, while Pamela Miller was also recognised as Female Entrepreneur of the Year at the UK Small Business Awards.
As we enter our second decade, our focus remains firmly on supporting energy businesses through a rapidly changing commercial landscape while continuing to expand our services, international reach and specialist expertise.
The winners of the Allica Bank Great British Entrepreneur Awards will be announced later this year.
